Dopamine Shopping Island
A WeChat mini program where people can enjoy the rhythm of shopping—browse, add to bag, check out, wait, unbox, and reflect—without spending real money.
What I built
Dopamine Shopping Island is a complete virtual-shopping simulator built around the idea: “I bought it, but spent nothing.” It currently contains 154 original imaginary products across 20 collections, from mood groceries and dream jewelry to night-owl convenience and playful home appliances.
How the experience works
Users browse products, open details, add items to a shopping bag, complete a clearly labeled simulated payment, watch a virtual order progress, unbox it, send virtual gifts, and review how they feel afterward. The product preserves the pleasure and imagination of shopping while removing real payment, real logistics, and real ownership pressure.
What makes it different
The catalog is a fictional world rather than a copy of a real marketplace. Products such as a chair that switches the world to “do not disturb” make the desired feeling visible. There are no real brands, scarcity countdowns, fake sales numbers, payment calls, addresses, or bank details. Shopping data stays on the device.
Why I am testing it
Korea's 2026 “dopamine site” wave suggests that the shopping ritual can be entertainment in its own right. This build tests a gentler version for WeChat: whether original products, simulated completion, sharing, gifting, and optional reflection can create repeat use without pushing users toward real consumption.
